Frequently asked questions
The questions we hear most: which version to download, how to get started, and whether your games stay private.
Is it free?
Yes. It is free and open source (GPL-3.0). AI Commentary connects to an AI service of your choice, whose usage limits and fees apply.
Which version should I download?
On Windows, choose by graphics card: CUDA for NVIDIA RTX 20 / 30 / 40 / 50, OpenCL for AMD, Intel or older NVIDIA cards, and CPU if you have no dedicated graphics card. On a Mac, choose Apple silicon or Intel.
How do I find my graphics card?
On Windows, press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager, open the Performance tab and select GPU. The model is shown at the top right.
Do I need to install KataGo or download a network?
No. Complete packages already include the KataGo engine and a default network. Unzip, open, and the first launch sets everything up.
Can it analyze my Fox games?
Yes. Click Fox Kifu in the toolbar and enter a Fox nickname to find recent public games.
Does it run on Mac and Linux?
Yes. There are builds for Apple silicon and Intel Macs, and Linux builds are published on GitHub. Board sync is Windows only for now.
Which interface languages are available?
Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, English, Japanese, Korean and Thai.
Will my games be uploaded?
No. Your games and analysis stay on your computer, and the app has no telemetry. Only online features such as AI Commentary or Remote Compute send the necessary game data to the service you choose.
How do I use AI Commentary?
Click AI Commentary at the top and sign in with ChatGPT, or enter your own API key. Available models and limits depend on your provider.
I don’t know terms like win rate or score lead.
You don’t need to yet. Win rate is KataGo’s estimate of the chance to win, and score lead estimates how many points a side is ahead. Start with the moves where the win rate dropped the most.
What is GoAgent? Do I need it?
GoAgent is a separate experimental project exploring AI Go teaching. You don’t need it to review games: LizzieYzy Next already includes AI Commentary and AI Coach.
How do I update?
Automatic update checks are off by default. Use Help → Check update, or download the new version from this site. Portable users can download just the small update.
